Blog EntryWell I've finally done it...Nov 15, '06 9:08 AM
for everyone

Well having thought about it for the last three years, I have finally gone a bought a rode bike.

The question is now, what pedal's to go for. It has been about 20 years since I last had a road bike, so I'm a bit out of touch.

What is it ???

Just use some mountain bike pedals, and shoes and a peaked helmet and everything else you already own.

So fancy 50 miles from the Rocko club house on Sunday morning then. An organised route is sorted
supposedly sedate.

It is a Trek 5000, Carbon Frame, mix of Ultegra and 105. It has heavy wheels, but they can be upgraded and for a penny short of £1000, I thought it was a bargain.

Sad thing is, apparently it is my Xmas present, so no riding it until after Christmas. I'll have to work on that - but definately not this weekend (firstly 'cause I've only just ordered it, and it's not here, secondly I am babysitting all weekend whilst the wife is in Prague) - Hopefully I'll earn enough brownie points to make the next day out. Any idea what is planned next?

well bob mitchell does a line in super light wheels at only £150 a pair, hes been showing them off down the clubhouse lately. All black with bladed spokes, very nice they look too. Lighter than Mavics apparently.

Talk about cycle porn, nice! Is that the same or very similar frame to BigRings?
I've just got some Wellgo MTB pedals from Chain Reaction to use with my road bike, they're Shimano cleat compatible, cost £45 and weigh 260g http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=2269

I've been using Shimano Ultegra SPD SL. They work okay but take ages to clip into as they are one sided. Best bet is to buy some MTB pedals - it will stop you having your heart in your mouth every time you want to get out of a junction!

I think I'm going to go for some MTB pedals and just use my current shoes etc. I am going to give the light wheels a miss for a while - then when I upgrade I will notice the difference (hopefully)
